Funeral and Memorial Service Information

The following information is offered to assist you as you prepare for the funeral or memorial service of your loved one.

If you are using a funeral home, most of these items will be handled by the home. Funeral home presence is strongly recommended for all funeral and memorial services held at UUMC and required for services with 100 or more persons in attendance.

Specific arrangements for the service will be made with the officiating pastor. These may include:

  • Date and time of service
  • Music selections
  • Speakers participating in the service
  • Additional use of the building for visitation, etc.
  • Use of Memorial Garden
  • Designation of memorial gift recipients

If a funeral home is not handling financial arrangements for you, fees may be paid directly to the individuals or the church, according to the list below.

Arrangements for refreshments or luncheons following the service may be made through the church. Please contact the church office or pastor.

Flower arrangements are allowed in the sanctuary but will be limited and restricted in placement under the discretion of the pastor.

The Memorial Garden is open to all, supported by donations. We are not able to receive specific gifts of plants or other items for the garden.

A list of memorial donors is given to the family. The church also sends acknowledgements for memorial gifts.

The sanctuary and chancel area have accessible seating for persons with special needs.

Ample parking, including handicapped parking, is available behind the church.

The custodian will have the building open and lights turned on one hour prior to the service. The building temperature will be regulated and walks cleared in the winter. The restrooms and sanctuary will be kept cleaned.

The organist will meet with the pastor and/or families to select music and recruit soloist, if requested. Music will be played 15 minutes before the service and several minutes after the service.
